How does Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband work?

Today, we’re relying more and more on the evolution of technology and connection to the internet. Having a fast and reliable internet connection has become a necessity for almost everything in our daily lives, from work and shopping to entertainment and catching up with friends and family. So how do we make sure our connections are meeting expectations?

A new network is being built by Fibre Heroes to upgrade the UK’s old broadband infrastructure and bring Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband to underserved towns across the country. As experts in broadband installation, we proudly partnered with Full Fibre’s Fibre Heroes and IDNet to bring the Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband to the Buxton area, ensuring internet connections are:

  • Fast
  • Supported
  • Reliable
  • Consistent
  • Secure

So let’s take a look at how Ultrafast Full Fibre works and how it’s different from the existing copper network .…

What is the existing copper network?

The FTTC network (fibre-to-the-cabinet) uses a combination of fibre broadband and copper cables to connect you and your premises to the internet. When fibre broadband was first introduced to the UK in 2008, it only ran as far as the local green internet cabinets that we find outside our houses, which passed electrical signals over copper cables in order to connect our homes and businesses.

These copper wires are still in use in any broadband that isn’t Full Fibre, meaning it’s still unreliable. This is because copper uses electrical signals that unfortunately get weaker the further they travel, whereas FTTP (fibre-to-the-premises) uses light to transmit data signals over fibre optic cables to bridge the gap between your premises and the local internet cabinet.

What makes Full Fibre different?

Thanks to the new network built by Fibre Heroes, we’re able to bypass the existing copper cable infrastructure, using light to transmit data signals over fibre optic cables straight into your premises instead. The signal can travel further and quicker (at the speed of light!) than the electrical signals on copper cables, providing faster broadband speeds for everyone connected to the premises. In fact, FTTP is the UK’s fastest and most reliable fibre optic broadband!

This means buffering is now a thing of the past for anyone who connected to Ultrafast Full Fibre! Businesses will have more reliable connections and be able to keep running smoothly. But that’s not all! We’ve listed some of the notable benefits of Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband below:

  • Energy efficient – the transmission of light requires less power than the electrical signals sent over long distances via the existing copper cable network, making Full Fibre much more energy efficient.
  • Faster – thanks to the upgrade to FTTP, maximum broadband speeds have increased from 80 Mbps to 1,000 Mbps, even over longer distances, and could even support multi-Gigabit internet speeds. This will support businesses, in particular, by reducing downtime and buffering, and enabling efficiency and productivity instead.
  • Larger capacity – Full Fibre is capable of providing much faster internet speeds and handling a larger amount of data than FTTC. This makes it ideal for data-intensive tasks across multiple devices, such as cloud data backups, streaming, downloads, and even gaming.
  • Less signal interference – FTTC is much more susceptible to faults and interference from issues such as bad weather or distance, than Full Fibre Broadband.
  • Future proof – Ultrafast Full Fibre Broadband is the future of connectivity. The Full Fibre network can handle the growing demand for faster internet speeds and capacity, and can also be upgraded more easily without the need for major overhauls in infrastructure at a later date if needed.
