A busy 2025 at Upland Systems & Merry Christmas

After a very busy year for us with lots of new clients, network upgrades and wireless connectivity, as well as team training and consistent high levels of service, we’ve been taking a look back at some of our memorable moments during each month.

Ruthin School is a private educational institution in Wales with a community of around 400 staff and students. We have been supporting the school for the past two years, following the departure of a previous IT provider that left the site without network access. At the time, the school’s networking infrastructure was entirely leased and costly to maintain. Our brief was to design and install a new 10GB backbone network across the campus, which comprises multiple buildings spread throughout the site. A critical element of the project was the introduction of network segregation, ensuring boarding houses were securely isolated from the main school network.

We supported Run North West during their move to a new office location in Wilmslow, delivering a reliable broadband connection alongside a resilient 4G failover solution. As part of the installation, we also deployed Wi-Fi access points throughout the premises to ensure consistent wireless coverage.

We implemented a new 3CX phone system at the Grimsby EfW site, replacing the existing BT telephony service. The move delivered significant annual cost savings while introducing enhanced functionality, including mobile applications and softphone capability. As part of the same project, the site’s connectivity was upgraded from a 100Mbps connection to a 1Gb leased line, providing faster and more reliable network performance.

Our team completed the Ubiquiti UniFi Wireless Admin (UWA) and Unifi Full-Stack professional training program.

This certification enhances our end-to-end capabilities, deepening our understanding of wireless networking principles and reinforcing our expertise in the full deployment stack of UniFi solutions. The training covered RF fundamentals, advanced Wi-Fi design, troubleshooting methodologies, and the latest in Wi-Fi technologies.

Tony completed a year at Upland and has become a key member of the team, building strong relationships with Clients and customers. Thanks for being a valued member of the team Tony.

We delivered a comprehensive network overhaul for Buxton Civic Association, installing multiple network access points throughout the building to ensure reliable connectivity. The project included full Wi-Fi coverage both indoors and outdoors, as well as the physical cabling of the Association’s new office block back to the main visitor centre, providing a robust and integrated network infrastructure.

Following completion of his Level 4 Network Engineering Apprenticeship and a number of training courses, including: Xero Advisor Certified, Acronis Cloud Sales Fundamentals, 3CX Basic Certification, and many more, Callum has been thriving in his new role and his promotion was key to the future growth of Upland and the services/support we offer. We look forward to what 2026 has in store Callum.

Continuing our partnership with Buxton Brewery, we supported the opening of their new venue, Trackside, by delivering reliable connectivity and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. The network was designed with advanced features to prioritise critical services such as tills, card payment systems, and staff Wi-Fi, using VLANs and priority-based policies to manage traffic effectively. This approach removed the need for a 1Gb dedicated internet connection—previously quoted by Openreach at several hundred pounds per month—resulting in cost savings of hundreds of pounds each month for the site with just some clever tech.

We supported long-term client Cobalt Energy as they expanded operations at the Scotland-based Levenseat EfW plant, now known as Gladsmuir Operations. Despite the logistical challenges of travel and the complex nature of the work, the project was successfully delivered, resulting in significant improvements to the site’s IT connectivity and security.

We began working with new customer Thereco as they take on a new project in Malvern. During the early stages of the development, we have supported the site by installing a robust network backbone designed to support future critical systems, including Avery weigh plates and the plant management system.

We supported Cobalt with the fit-out of their new office, delivering a modern IT setup that included enterprise-grade Wi-Fi, conference room displays, desk power units, and a high-speed fibre broadband connection
